Gourdon, France: A Small Medieval Village in the Alpes-Maritimes

About 30 minutes outside of Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes mountains sits a Medieval village called Gourdon. It is a bit touristy but the town is charming and the views of the valleys are extraordinary. Here are a few of the photos from our visit.

Grasse, France: Perfume Capital of the World

We spent a three day weekend in Grasse and the surrounding area in March. It was a lovely wedding gift from Bernard's friends that we finally got around to taking a year after our wedding. I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely Grasse was - it hugged the sides of a mountain and the old town was charming. Here are some photos of this lovely town on the border of the Cote d'Azur and Provence, surrounded by the Alpes-Maritimes.

Spring View from the Cockpit of a TGV

Bernard is a TGV driver here in France. He brings his love of photography to the TGV cockpit in these photos he took last week during the first blooms of Spring. I thought they were beautiful so I decided to share them on the blog. Please excuse the few bug spots.  Enjoy!

Visit to Italy: Florence and Cinque Terre

So far our photos on this blog have been of France. But I also lived in Italy for two years and vacationed there for 20.  On a nostalgic trip back to Italy last summer we stayed in Cinque Terre (Italian Riviera near Genova), Florence and Verona. These are a few photos of that trip.

The St. Hilaire de Touvet Funicular Near Grenoble

The St. Hilaire de Touvet Funicular, located near Grenoble, is the second steepest funicular in Europe at an amazing 86% grade. It was built in the 1920's to reach a sanitarium being constructed at the top of the mountain. It's only 40 minutes from our house so we took a ride on it one day. The views from the top are amazing and it's a great place for hang gliders to jump off and have a nice ride down. In fact, every September they have a competition which is a sight to behold!  Here are a few photos of the experience.
