Templar's Tower in Excideuil, Dordogne, France

I stayed with a dear friend in Excideuil, a medieval town filled with Templar's historic buildings. It so happened that my friend owned one of the historic buildings - 12th century Templar's Tower which her family converted into a home. I stayed five days here exploring the area and having fabulous meals and conversations. This is one of several posts about Dordogne. During my travels, I decided that the Dordogne/Bordeaux region was one of two regions I would seriously consider settling in (the other being Languedoc). Pristine landscapes, fabulous food culture, historic gorgeous cities, rivers, the 14,000 year old cave paintings, tons of castles, and less than two hours from Bordeaux. And the housing was incredibly affordable in the small towns.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux is an up and coming city in France. Led by an innovative Mayor, construction of new apartments and commercial projects have begun. The new Musee du Vin (museum of wine) recently opened and is a great multi-media experience for wine lovers. I loved the city but buying housing inside the town is over my budget, but looking an hour outside of Bordeaux is more realistic.

Paris, France - Part 1 of 3

I spent a few weeks in France in October. Fortunately, I can take my work on the road since I'm a nonprofit phone consultant and a writer. I had a mission - to find a region that I wanted to live in permanently (or as permanent as my life gets) in France. I visited Paris, Bordeaux, Dordogne, Dijon, Lyon and Alsace. I also did 10 days in Italy - Stresa on Lake Maggiore, teaching English near Lake Como, and Torino.

These photos are of Paris, which I ruled out as a living possibility because of the cost and the congestion.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American readers!
