French Comfort Food - FREE EBOOK - Recipes of Savoie and the French Alps


French Comfort Food is an assortment of 50 recipes which represent the cuisine of the region of Savoie (Savoy) and of the French Alps.  I chose the name French Comfort Food because the foods of this region are exactly that: the main ingredients include potatoes, butter, cheeses, creams, hams and other wonderfully decadent things that Americans would consider in the category of comfort food. Since I’m an American, it seemed like an appropriate name.  

When I arrived in the French Alps I started looking for recipes and cookbooks from this region. While I found plenty of cookbooks in French, I could not find a single cookbook about Savoyard or French Alps food in English. I found one out-of- print book about Savoie in English that had a few Savoyard recipes in it, but that’s where my luck ran out.  So after months of searching, I decided I would just have to write one myself.  I collected recipes from friends in the area, my husband’s friends’ wives, and I searched the internet and went to the Savoie bookstores and bought several cookbooks of Savoyard and French Alps recipes.  Of course, they were all in French and used the metric measuring system so I had to start translating them into English. I also made changes to the recipes as I tried making them myself, or when I found a slight variation would make them easier to cook, add extra flavor, or easier to find the ingredients in the States or elsewhere in the world. I have not tried all the recipes in the book as of yet so if you find one that is your favorite, please contact me and let me know.
